National Taiwan University College of Life Science Classroom
-
First Section
( 9:00-11:00 ) -
English class (reading, listening, discussion)
-
- Did you know that biodiversity decline will endanger food security? The relationship between biodiversity and human well-being far exceeds your imagination. This seminar class will introduce and explain what biodiversity is by exploring the diverse ecosystem inside National Taiwan University.
-
Second Section
Lunch break in between -
Application class (learning, discussion, planning, designing blueprints, production, presentation)
-
- Insects are important indicators(bioindicators) for observing biodiversity. Once students have learned the characteristics as well as the bodily structures and functions of various insects, they can express their creativity by designing and producing unique new species of insects.
-
- Students will use the gold coins that they have earned during the first section to purchase different “frameworks” for the new species of insect that they are going to design and create. The “frameworks” may include components such as the insect’s habitat, diet, natural enemies etc.. Students will also need to purchase tools and materials e.g. paper, scissors, cardboard, glue, and tape etc. to help them create their insect. The insect that is created should have the bodily structures and/or characteristics that suit the “framework” given to each student.
-
Third Section
( 13:00-15:00 ) -
Exploration class (planning, exploring, capturing)
-
-
Pokemon insect hunt at the campus of National Taiwan University
Students need to plan out a route that will get them the highest score. They’ll receive scores by taking photos of the insects that they’ve discovered. The score that they receive for each insect captured will be based on the rarity of the insect. Students can use gold coins to buy tools e.g. campus map, information on insect habitats, telescopes, and microscopes etc.
-
End
( 15:00-15:30 ) -
- Ending: A foreign teacher will first introduce the topic of “modern technologies are inspired by the body structures of insects”, and then wrap up the camp session with a summary of the students’ performances and achievements.
- Homework: Students will be asked to make a video or PowerPoint on what they’ve learned during the camp.
-
